Richard is a self-taught artist. Even though he has not studied art in an academic setting, the limited private training he has taken has provided the basic approach to this art form and has allowed him the freedom and independence to develop his own unique style.

Richard converted to his current art form in 2007 and has gone on to develop many of his own distinctive techniques and has received over 50 awards in art competitions, including Best Of Shows in 2008, 2010, and 2017.

In 2009 Richard started teaching Workshops in his art form and has conducted 80 in person workshops throughout Southern California. In 2010 Richard began showing his art at Fine Art Festivals. As of June 2024 he has participated in 59 Festivals. 
 

During the Pandemic, Richard experimented and changed his overall style. Limiting his painting to a specialized Rust look and Highlighting textures and some objects with a Metallic Bronze color. Starting in 2023 all of Richard’s new works have been in this style, and some old pieces revisited with the Metallic Bronze treatment.

Richard believes his style of art allows his imagination to expand and flourish. He enjoys combining otherwise unrelated objects together with acrylic paint, resulting in a singular and unique work of art.  His art ranges from fanciful and fun to contemplative and emotional. His objective is to rouse feelings within the viewer.
